Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is fluoride and what is it important to my dental health?
A: A fluoride can be in the form of a solution, a gel or varnish used in dental treatments. Fluoride is known as nature’s cavity fighter because it takes shape in two forms: topical, which are found in toothpastes and mouthwashes; and systemic, those which are ingested, according to our Plano dentist. Fluoride prevents cavities of the teeth. This is important because there are two different ways to prevent cavities. The first is for it to be concentrated on the bone growth and development of children’s teeth. It also works during demineralization and reminiralization, which is naturally occurring in our mouth. This is a natural mineral found and often added in our drinking water.
